Teams shortlisted for prestigious Water Industry Awards

Irish Water has been shortlisted in six categories for the prestigious Water Industry Awards, which celebrate excellence across the water sector in Ireland and Britain.

Irish Water teams are finalists in a range of categories, spanning water and wastewater treatment, drought response, health and safety, operational planning, and female project leadership.

These include the Women in Water Initiative of the Year for the Lough Talt Water Treatment Plant Upgrade Project. This project, which was noteworthy for the prominent role of women in the project team, has benefited 13,000 people in South Sligo by providing a safe, secure water supply and enabling the lifting of a long-running Boil Water Notice in the area.

Irish Water was also shortlisted for its response to the widespread drought during summer 2020 and the utility’s world-leading Certified Water Stewardship Programme for businesses.

Two of Irish Water’s contracting partners - Glan Agua and Coffey Construction - have also been shortlisted for their work on Irish Water projects.

Niall Gleeson, Managing Director of Irish Water, said: “This achievement reflects the outstanding commitment and effort that Irish Water, our people, our contractors and partners in the Local Authorities put in every day to deliver a safe and secure water supply, protect our environment and support economic development.”

The Water Industry Awards, now in their fifteenth year, recognise excellence in innovation, best practice and customer service across UK and Irish water companies and their supply chains. Last year, Irish Water won an award in the Asset Optimisation Initiative of the Year category for its sustainable sludge management project in Co Kilkenny.

This year’s virtual awards ceremony will take place on Thursday, 27th May.
