Moving forward: Renewables in an age of austerity and a changing energy landscape

Now in its fifth year, the National Renewable Energy Summit is Ireland’s best-established event for the business of renewable energy.

The Government and the administration in Northern Ireland have both set targets to generate 40% of electricity from renewable sources by 2020. According to a report from stockbrokers Davy, meeting these renewable energy targets will require investment of up to €5 billion between now and 2020.

Ireland is a hub of innovation across the renewable energy spectrum, with many leaders in the sector. One of the main impediments to these companies growing fast enough is often access to financing. For Ireland to fully exploit the renewable energy opportunity, it will require a deeper and more innovative funding market.
